Latin Project 1 - 6th grade, 1st 9 weeks

Introduction to Roman Life – Project 1

There are many fascinating aspects to Rome and its culture.  Each student is to select one of the items below to research and report on.  The report is to be both visual and verbal.

  1. Visual – Create a visual aid/poster for your presentation.  The poster must be at least the size of half a sheet of poster board (approximately 11” x 14” – you can use the other half for a project later or share it with a friend).  The poster should have a colorful visual representation of the topic you have researched.
  2. Verbal – A verbal presentation will be given in front of the class.  It should be 2-3 minutes long.

Below are some topics you may choose from.  Only one person from each class may research a specific topic.  The topics are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis.  You may select a topic that is not on the list with the teacher’s approval.

Roman people (citizens, slaves, senators…)

Roman clothing

Living quarters (villa, apartment buildings)

Roman art (mosaics, sculptures)

Shopping (markets, stores…)

Roman money

Roman baths

Roman gods/faith/religion

Roman roads

Aqueducts

schools

Roman medicine

Children’s games & toys

Gladiators

Chariot Racing

Theater

Roman Army

Roman Soldier’s life

weapons

Senate

Topics must be selected by 29JUL09.  Selection of topic will be a participation grade.  Failure to select a topic by the assigned date or changing it after the date will result in a 0 for this specific grade (not the project as a whole).

Presentations must be complete and students ready to present on September 8.  That will give us two weeks to include presentations within the regular course materials.  If you wish to complete your project early and present prior to the due date, you may do so.  Please let me know so that we may schedule a time for the presentation.

You must use three sources for research.  List these sources on the back of your presentation board.

Notes may be listed on the back of the board to aid in your verbal presentation, or information written on the front of the board in a clear and clean manner.  You may not read your information word for word.  You are expected to know your topic and be able to discuss it with minimal use of notes/aids.

GRADES:
